Shanks

For the shanks project, we wanted to explore different iterations of the same object by using different materials and connection methods to achieve the same goal.
It was kind of a riff on Martino Gamper’s 100 chairs in 100 days project which to us seemed like a monumental undertaking. We decided to do a simpler 30 shanks in 30 days.
People think they find shanks interesting because they are related to prison and have a dark context, but I think the real interest is in human ingenuity in the face of a lack of resources.
We obviously had access to tools but we were still making our shanks from found materials in our scrap bins.
